We proudly present Bristol’s only Maker Café. If there are others in existence then please let us know but we believe we are the first in Bristol…
What is a Maker Café?
Welcome to Redfield Maker Café.
First, lets cover the latter part. We are fundamentally a Café where visitors can enjoy fresh ground roast coffee as well as snacks and light meals. We are currently working on our menus and are looking to establish a popular selection of menus as we expand our workforce. If you’re gifted in creating delicious snacks in a commercial environment we’d love to hear from you so please get in touch.
Empowering you!
Our mission is to empower our customers. We want you to understand and take action to embrace technology in a way that suits you as opposed to being yet another brick in the wall. There has never been more emphasis upon the individual and yet we find ourselves powerless and at the mercy of service providers. Just like being one in 40 million voters who get to vote the next political party hence government, yet when you think about it, our votes don’t really get us what we want, we’re merely insignificant cogs in a very complex system.
We are particularly keen to teach you skills to turn you into a creative individual as opposed to a consumer distracted by random Social Media pop ups, to upskill so that you can enforce Privacy on your Smartphone and other Computer Equipment, to facilitate and provide supervision to help you achieve your goals.
Our Café
Initially our Café shall be serving edibles, hot and cold drinks from 7am until 2pm. During this period of each day, our focus will be on meeting our customers’ need for food and drinks. This of course will be our main source of income to fund our business and overheads.
The Maker dimension
We will then focus on Maker Activities including hands on creativity as well as periodic lectures, seminars and demonstrations of Maker activities. In essence we want to onboard like minded people, give them all the necessary tools and support until they are on a roll. We will of course be available for support and pull you out of any difficulties you might run into to make sure that you meet your goals and not get stuck.
Check out our Maker Activities page for detailed information on facilities and types of activities we provide for our members. In brief, these can be grouped into Mechanical, Electronic, Software and IT applications. We will show examples of each category and types of projects you can undertake at the Maker Cafe and subject to level of interest we would love to see our own In Moove robot taking shape as we begin to explore Robotics and Artificial Intelligence learning and exploring activities as part of our group projects.
To elaborate on what else you can do at Redfield Maker Café, we have a huge Server on-site where you can build web sites, forums, WordPress portfolio sites and we have the technology to host these and the know how as to how you can have your personal web site by the end of your first visit.
Many projects will be a combination of two or more categories such as Mechatronics.
Our workshops and limited workspaces also known as Maker Terminals range from Rapid Prototyping using our 3D Printers, Arduino Coding to learn programming, building Electronic Circuits, implementing Raspberry-Pi projects and deploying unique Private Multi Media Web Servers such as Next Cloud, Plex Media, ELGG Social Networking portals and many other Open Source applications.
Please visit our Membership pages for details on benefits of joining The Learning Zone.
Members signed up to any one of our projects can come along and get on with their creations at any time of the day independently and during Maker Sessions receive full supervision and support.
